What was happening in technology back in 1995? March Edition

To celebrate our 20th anniversary of providing reliable IT support across Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire, each month we will be looking back to how technology have changed over the last 20 years.

This month, we are looking back to when Yahoo! first became an incorporated business.

Yahoo! was founded by Jerry Yang and David Filo back in January 1994 at Stanford University. The website was originally called ‘Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle’ and was used as a directory for other websites. Due to the popularity of the website (over 1 million hits in a few months), by April 1994, the website was renamed ‘Yahoo!’ and the yahoo.com domain was created in January 2015.

Yang and Filo saw a massive business potential in the website and on the 2nd March, 1995, Yahoo! was incorporated. The following year, the company sold 2.6 million shares, raising an approximate $3 million.

As of March 2015, Yahoo! have over 100 companies, including the popular social media platform, Tumblr, and the image hosting service, Flickr.
