It is fair to say that technology is embedded in our everyday lives. Can you remember the last time you spent the day without checking your phone…or looking at your emails? Can you remember when a phone was literally used just as a phone? The pace of technological innovation is even faster than ever before. Just a few years ago, cloud technology was seen as cutting-edge. Now, using the cloud is seen as an essential element within some businesses.
2016 has been home to many technological developments, including smart technology and virtual, but what is on the cards for 2017?
Below are 5 technology trends we predict might make an impact in 2017:
- The Internet of Things
The Internet of Things is more than just connecting the Internet to your toaster, or being able to control your heating via your phone. Having Internet connected devices means that businesses can automate and refine their operations, and help make it simple for customers to buy and for businesses to sell. Though the IoT has been around for pretty much decades now, according to Gartner, it is expected to make even more of an impact in 2017 to our everyday lives.
Remote working is already popular but SCS Technology predicts it is going to be even more so in 2017. Could this be the end of physical offices? Probably not yet, but it is important that businesses don’t fall behind with this trend and see the benefits that remote working can have on employees and productivity.
- Virtual reality
While it has already started to become popular, it is anticipated that virtual reality will transform the way we interact with each other over the next year. In 2017, Microsoft are expected to release more information about their HoloLens, a new, innovative way to communicate through 3D holograms. Could we soon be able to do business across the world via holograms? It looks like it just might be on the cards…
- Adaptive security
With the rise of the Internet of Things, businesses need to consider security early on in the design of IoT solutions, not only to protect users, but to prevent anything being compromised. Cyber security has been a big topic throughout 2016, and it is unlikely to change in 2017.
- The Cloud
SCS Technology predicts that in 2017 we will see a big increase of users adapting to the Cloud. According to Cisco, Cloud traffic is expected to increase almost 4 times in the next four years, with traffic increasing from 3.9 zettabytes (ZB) to 14.1 ZB by 2020. It seems that in 2017, more businesses are going to be making that leap from physical servers and investing more in virtual ones.
